Geology Tour

The Chatham Islands have a complex geology, with ancient volcanoes, basalt columns, schists and sediments, including limestone. The land has been eroded, uplifted and drowned countless times, resulting in a diversity of environments. Conducted by geologist and research scientists Hamish Campbell these tours are a fascinating insight into the diversity of these isolated islands.

Chatham Island Forget-Me-Not Festival

Conducted by Gordon Collier, a world-renown expert on the the Chatham Island forget-me-not (myosotidium hortensia), the tour is a chance to see these beautiful indigenous plants when they burst into pretty blue flowers. See them en masse at Admiral Farm, Lois Croon's fabulous garden, and in their natural habitat. Also see other endemic plants, including Rautini, Kekeretehe, the Chatham Islands ice plant, Mahoe and the Karama.

Tramping and Hiking Tours

Visitors to the Chatham Islands will be spoilt for choice when it comes to tramping or walking. Walks organised by Hotel Chatham are conducted across private land so walkers must be accompanied by a tour guide. The guides have extensive knowledge of the local areas, fauna and fauna, making the trips informative as well as scenic. Bio security is important on the Chatham Island and staff at Hotel Chatham will advise you on what you need to do to protect the environment.
